Guajiru Island is one of the best places to do and to learn kitesurfing, because it combines excellent wind conditions (good power and constancy) with a safe geography and good local infrastructure.

There are several factors that make the place safer and easier to learn or practice kitesurfing, compared to other beaches in Ceará. A few meters of the coast there is an extensive strip of sand that allows the damming of the sea forming a large flat lagoon without interference from the waves - ideal for beginner kitesurfers and advanced freestyle athletes. Most of the time it is possible to sail with 1 meter of depth. The fact of having two sand banks brings more security because it prevents the kitesurfer from going to the high seas. Lastly, the lagoon area formed is huge providing ample space for sailing, even in high season.

Whether by car or kitetrips, Guajiru Island is on the route between other famous kite surf spots in Ceará, such as Cumbuco and Preá. For those who want to enjoy good winds and beautiful nature, it is a must!

How to get there

The Ilha do Guajiru is located in the city of Itarema, 215km away from Fortaleza. To access Barra beach, where you will find the lodges (pousadas) and the main kitesurfing area, you must pass by Lagamar Avenue, then a short road of the CE-040 and Via Costeira Avenue until you reach the beach. It is possible to take a bus from Fortaleza which costs around R$ 40 and takes around 4 hours. Some of the lodges offer transfer service. But the way we like to get on the island is by doing a kitetrip :P
