Guajiru Island is one of the best places to do and to learn kitesurfing, because it combines excellent wind conditions (good power and constancy) with a safe geography and good local infrastructure.

There are several factors that make the place safer and easier to learn or practice kitesurfing, compared to other beaches in Ceará. A few meters of the coast there is an extensive strip of sand that allows the damming of the sea forming a large flat lagoon without interference from the waves - ideal for beginner kitesurfers and advanced freestyle athletes. Most of the time it is possible to sail with 1 meter of depth. The fact of having two sand banks brings more security because it prevents the kitesurfer from going to the high seas. Lastly, the lagoon area formed is huge providing ample space for sailing, even in high season.

Whether by car or kitetrips, Guajiru Island is on the route between other famous kite surf spots in Ceará, such as Cumbuco and Preá. For those who want to enjoy good winds and beautiful nature, it is a must!

How to get there

Guajiru Island is located in the municipality of Itarema, 220 km from Fortaleza airport. To access Barra Beach/Ilha do Guajiru, where the inns and the main kitesurfing area are located, you must go through Avenida do Lagamar, then a short stretch of CE-040 and Avenida Via Costeira until you reach the beach. You can take a bus from Fortaleza to the city center of Itarema, which costs around R$60 and can take an average of 4 hours. Some of the lodges offer transfer service. But the way we like to get on the island is by doing a kitetrip :P
